Occidental Vacation Club sells vacation ownership interests tied to the Occidental Hotels & Resorts brand, primarily across Caribbean and Mexican all-inclusive properties. If you own an Occidental Vacation Club interest, here’s how I’d walk you through your situation.
I worked directly with Occidental Vacation Club during my 25+ years inside the timeshare industry, alongside sales, contracts, and training work at more than twenty resort brands across the Caribbean and Mexico. Here’s what’s worth knowing.
Confirm Your Contract’s Governing Law
As with most Caribbean and Mexican vacation clubs, the country whose law governs your contract isn’t always obvious from where you bought or where the resort is located. Read your contract’s governing-law and dispute-resolution clause before assuming you know your rights.
Rescission Window
If you’re a recent buyer, your contract’s cancellation clause will state your specific rescission period and the required method of notice — typically written notice, sent by a specified method, within a specified number of days. Follow it exactly; a verbal cancellation is rarely sufficient.
If You’re Past Rescission
Contact Occidental Vacation Club’s owner services team directly and ask whether they currently offer a deed-back or exit program for accounts in good standing. As a larger, well-established vacation club operator, they may have a more formalized process than smaller independent clubs — but it varies, so get their specific requirements in writing rather than assuming.
Watch For
- Exit companies claiming specialized Occidental experience without being able to describe, specifically, what that experience involved.
- Verbal promises about trading flexibility through an exchange network that don’t match the actual fee structure — see my companion article on how RCI and Interval International actually work if your ownership is exchange-affiliated.
- Pressure to make a decision about exiting on a short deadline; a legitimate resort exit process, like a legitimate sales process, doesn’t require same-day decisions.
The Bottom Line
Treat an Occidental Vacation Club exit the same disciplined way you’d treat any other resort brand: confirm governing law, check your rescission window, ask the resort directly about a deed-back before paying anyone, and verify any paid service’s claims in writing.
This isn’t an exit company running a script, and it isn’t a Reddit thread full of guesses. It’s more than two decades on the inside of this industry, turned into a straight answer for the people it used to sell to.
